Exelvys Value EngineeringMeasuring the value of your decisions
Exelvys Value Engineering turns strategic decisions into measured economic performance. A chief executive’s decision has an economic value. That value needs to be measured before the decision is taken, and verified afterwards. This is the economics of decision-making, the founding concept of our method.
The five steps
Our aim is straightforward: to turn your strategic decisions into measured economic performance. To that end, we always distinguish two figures. The first is the potential: what the levers can deliver at best. The second is the prudent base: what a finance director can include in the budget with confidence. We state both, and we never conflate them.
1. Economic Baseline
What you receive: your baseline economic performance.
A reference point gives every later figure its meaning and scale; without one, no gain can be judged. Before discussing gains, therefore, we establish your starting point. We build it from your management data and set simple benchmarks, for example what one point of margin is worth in your business.
2. Value Discovery
What you receive: the levers of growth, margin and productivity.
The aim is not a list of ideas but a small number of workstreams that can realistically be delivered, each grounded in economic reality. We identify the levers through analysis of your data and interviews with your teams, and group them into workstreams that share the same data, the same owner and the same expected result.
3. Value Quantification
What you receive: gains, costs, risks and investments, quantified.
Each lever is quantified from a measurement taken in your data, never from a market ratio. We estimate the gain, together with its implementation cost, its running cost and its risks. This is where the distinction between the potential and the prudent base arises: to each gain we apply a discount that reflects how robust the measurement is.
4. Capital Prioritization
What you receive: initiatives ranked by return and feasibility.
The result is a prioritised roadmap in which the order of workstreams follows from the figures rather than from preference. We rank workstreams by return on investment, that is the annual gain relative to the implementation cost, and by feasibility. Every euro committed is judged by what it returns. The roadmap belongs to you: you may implement it with your own teams, or ask us to support you.
5. Value Realization
What you receive, if you ask for it: monitoring of the results actually achieved.
This step is offered only if you ask for it. Some chief executives first want a clear view of what is possible, in which case the engagement ends with the roadmap. If you choose to be supported, we monitor the results actually achieved, workstream by workstream, and compare them with the prudent base we stated. One governance rule applies throughout: no workstream moves to the next stage without a measured result. Our analysis informs; the decisions remain yours.
Two points to bear in mind
The potential is not the budget line
The prudent base indicates what a finance director can budget today. The potential indicates the target for the trajectory. We take the lower bound of each gain, apply a discount according to how robust the measurement is, and use that reduced amount as the budget base.
No workstream moves to the next stage without a measured result
Where you ask us to oversee implementation, this rule protects your investment. It avoids layering workstreams on promises, and reserves resources for the levers that have already demonstrated their gain.
